Today is my birthday. I'm 21 years old today. HA! Just kidding. 36 actually. But, for the first time in weeks it's 40 degrees! I am ecstatic about this! 40 degrees is seriously a Minnesota Heat Wave! Might as well get out the bikini and sun myself in the driveway with a cold one. Yes, I have actually done that. No judging. I guess that falls under.....
Runfession #1. I have laid out in the driveway with a beer in my hand!

In all seriousness, normally on January 29th, it's colder than a witches tittie outside. I mean.....we are talking -30 below with windchill. So, the warm weather is a welcome one. I am over the moon that it's warm out.
But, here's the big Runfession #2. I hate running outside in the frigid temperature! Seriously.. I really do!
I'm living in the wrong state. I LOVE to run. It makes me feel alive. I post nearly everyday my post-runs on social media and usually I'm all smiles. And, truthfully, I usually AM all smiles at the end of my run. There is something magical about the feeling of a great workout. What you don't see is all the bitching during the run. :)

It's so hard to run in MN in the winter. 5 pounds of clothes so that every inch of exposed skin is covered for fear of frostbite from the windchill. Frozen fingers, frozen toes, icy roads, snow... the list goes on. Don't even get me started on the darkness. I just join the dark side for 8 months. The only light I ever see on my early morning runs is from Mid-May to Mid-September. But, I continue to learn more everyday, and in the long run feel blessed to be able to run.
This week at work, my office has been celebrating my birthday. My amazing co-worker made me my favorite cake: Better-than-sex-cake. Better-than-sex? That's debatable, but I do love me some cake.
This is the best cake on the planet. And, where will you find more sugar and candy than any other work environment? In a dental office. In fact.... this leads me to.....
Runfession #3: I ate the WHOLE cake!

I am feeling unbelievably guilty. The sweet, sweet caramel, chocolate and whipped cream. It was a party in my mouth that I couldn't get enough of. No amount of running this week has erased this. And, it's never happened before. Whoops!
So, today starts a new day. The evidence is gone and I can go back to normal eating habits. I hope.
I'm sure there's more this month that I could confess.... but everyone needs some secrets right? Had fun linking up this week for Marcia's Runfesssions! Looking forward to next month!
I've had the whole cake too...and a whole pizza. It seemed worth it at the time, lol. Also, every time I hear people here in ATL complain about the cold I'm going to send them this blog post. Keep warm!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Winters almost over. I think :)
DeleteThere's just something about cake...and brownies. I keep hacking off small pieces until ALL OF IT is gone. Ugh. We're expecting it to hit 40 here today. But it's still 19. Hey even 19 is "warm" in my book. Thanks for linking up!
ReplyDeleteIt's the most traffic I've seen on the blog I think ever!! Great topic Marcia!
DeleteHappy birthday!! If you weren't an active person, eating the whole cake would be something to be very concerned about. But you're active and it's not something that happens all the time. Don't beat yourself up about it anymore!!
ReplyDeleteI remember those dark and depressing winter days when I lived in St. Cloud. I wasn't a runner back then but even getting up and dressed to go to work or the store was a huge effort. And I ate an entire pan of brownies myself last week. Don't feel too bad. It happens.
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy what we can eat. I bet it's the hormones. 😜
DeleteHappy Birthday!!! Enjoy the heat wave. It's coming here this weekend too. Maybe 50 degrees on Sunday? Woo hoo!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday! Okay so how long did it take you to eat the whole cake? I slowly but methodically worked my way through a can of French Fried onions! ;)
ReplyDelete4 days!!! Mmmm... French fried onions!!
DeleteHappy birthday! You can eat as much cake as you want to, it's your day :) I'm originally from Buffalo and live in Philly, I can't even imagine what -30 feels like so I have such admiration for runners who deal with those conditions, yikes!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm definitely ready for warmer weather! I'm ready for shorts!
DeleteHappy Birthday! The weather in Minnesota has been so amazing this week! I ran tonight, I finished up about 7pm and it was still nice out (I had to wear my reflective vest because as you mentioned it is always dark out)! I am with you on running in the cold. This year I am struggling to figure out which I hate more running with negative wind chills or the treadmill...
ReplyDeleteWe have an indoor track in my town too... But I feel like a hamster on a hamster wheel! 🤓
DeleteYup, being a warm-loving runner in the Midwest is killing me. We didn't have such warmth here in Cleveland though, so I'm very jealous of you right now!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday!
I mean it's your birthday...eat the cake!!
ReplyDeleteOmg -30..that is brutal! I would totally be in a bikini @ 40 degrees! Lol!
-Tamieka@footballingrunningmom
It's 40 here today and it's ahhhhmazing!!
DeleteThis whole post made me smile! Even the "cold as a witches titty" I thought only us Southerners said that? Next week is a new week to get back on track so eat all the cake.... oh wait you already did! Bahahaha I would have ate it too! First time here on your blog Gina! Happy Birthday to you! Hope you have an awesome weekend!
ReplyDeleteThis is my first winter running outside...and I cannot wait until warmer weather! Here is KS, it has been in the 50s a few times this past week, crazy weather!
ReplyDeleteI'm in Iowa, and I'm with you on the cold weather thing. I put up with it, though, because it's MUCH less painful than running on the 'mill. I've been on the 'mill 4 (?) times already in 2016...and not by choice LOL Happy Birhtday ;-)
